Executive Chairman of the Board
Charlie was named Executive Chairman of the Board in May 2013. He joined The Provident Bank in 1998 as executive vice president and senior lending officer. He was appointed president in 2003 and chief executive officer in 2004. He was only the tenth CEO since the bank’s founding 185 years ago. Charlie, a prominent leader in the local community, is a trustee and current chair of the Development Committee for the Essex National Heritage Commission, a Director of BancAlliance in Washington, D.C., a former chairman of the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, the past chair of the Anna Jaques Community Health Foundation, a trustee of the Anna Jaques Hospital and chair of the successful Capital Campaign that transformed the hospital’s facility. For the past 11 years, he is also known as the organizer and chair of the annual St. Patrick’s Day political roast to benefit The Link House. He even became Yankee Homecoming’s first Town Crier.
Chief Executive Officer
Dave was named Chief Executive Officer in May 2013. He joined the bank in 2001 as chief financial officer after working as a federal banking regulator with the FDIC supervising community banks and at the Office of Comptroller of the Currency supervising the largest and most complex national banks. He was named executive vice president in December 2003. He participates in many community organizations, currently as a finance committee member at the Anna Jacques Hospital and as West Newbury representative to the Whittier Regional Technical High School. He formerly served on the board and as treasurer of the Amesbury Chamber of Commerce and was a former board member and treasurer of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center. He was a founding Director at BancAlliance in Washington, D.C.
Chuck was named President in May 2013. He joined the bank in 2004 as senior vice president/senior loan officer and was named executive vice president later that year. His previous experience includes 15 years in senior management, including senior vice president roles at both First and Ocean National Bank and KeyBank. Chuck is active in community organizations, currently serving as vice chairman of the Anna Jaques Community Health Foundation and corporator of the Anna Jaques Hospital; board member, treasurer and finance committee member of Turning Point, Inc.; board member, finance committee member, Economic Development Action Committee member and past chairman of the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and Industry; past president of the Newburyport Rotary Club; and chairman of the commercial credit committee of the Massachusetts Bankers Association.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Carol is a Certified Public Accountant and has more than 20 years in the public accounting industry and was most recently at Shatswell, MacLeod & CO., PC accounting firm as a Partner in the organization conducting audits of financial institutions. Ms. Houle received her degree in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting from Franklin Pierce College. She currently resides in Salem, New Hampshire, with her husband and is an avid Patriots fan.
Executive Vice President, Retail Banking
Gary joined The Provident Bank in August 2008. He has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry in the area of business line management. Prior to joining The Provident Bank, Gary has held several senior level roles including executive vice president of consumer banking at Cambridge Savings Bank in Massachusetts and senior vice president in the retail banking division at Eastern Bank. Additionally, Coltin served as corporate risk manager and retail regional manager for Fleet Bank of Massachusetts. He actively participates as a member of the Board of Directors for The Pettengill House in Salisbury. Gary is also a member of the Executive Club at Bentley University. He is a graduate of Bentley University and the Graduate School of Retail Bank Management at the University of Virginia.
Senior Vice President - Chief Talent Officer
Anne joined The Provident Bank in June of 2005 as the Branch Manager for our Portsmouth market. Her extensive background in retail training at J.Crew and as the Northeast district manager at Esprit Inc. has prepared her for the current role as Chief Talent Officer. Anne oversees the PR, Marketing and Human Resources departments for the bank. She obtained her degree in Special Care Counseling at Champlain College in Canada. Anne resides in Portsmouth and is on the Board of the New Hampshire Film Festival.
Senior Vice President & Senior Credit Officer
Lisa was named Senior Vice President and Senior Credit Officer of the Bank in December 2003. She joined The Provident in 1996 as Vice President overseeing credit administration. Lisa has over 20 years of banking and lending experience and previously held the position of Corporate Loan Review Officer at Fleet Bank. Lisa is a graduate of the University of Lowell and received her M.B.A. from Bentley College Graduate School.
Senior Vice President, Commercial Lending
Chuck was promoted to Senior Vice President in December 2004 and oversees the Real Estate Construction and Development group within the Commercial Loan Department. He has over 20 years of lending experience. Chuck joined the Bank in 1997 as an Assistant Vice President in Commercial Lending and was promoted to Vice President in 1999. Chuck holds a B.S. degree from the University of Maine in Economics.
