Newly-Appointed Provident Director Increases Boards's Tech Security Expertise
Nate Gravel brings youth, technological insight to Board of Directors
(AMESBURY, MA., August 8, 2017) – The Provident Bank today announced the appointment of a new director, bringing increased technological expertise and a younger perspective to the board.
The newest member of the Provident's Board of Directors, Nathaniel C. Gravel, 32, is vice president of the Information Security and IT practices at GraVoc Associates, Inc., a Peabody, Massachusetts-based technology consulting firm. He is responsible for the development and delivery of GraVoc's three principal service areas in information security: risk management and compliance, IT assurance and audit. He has extensive experience working within the community banking industry.
“It is becoming increasingly important for Banks to have IT expertise on their Boards”, Provident’s CEO Dave Mansfield said. “Technology touches every aspect of a bank’s business and as technology advances, there is an evolving risk that requires heightened attention. Cyberattacks and security breaches pose a significant risk to financial institutions. Nate’s IT and cybersecurity background, along with his experience working with community banks, will be a valuable asset to the Board and will further advance The Provident’s culture of innovation.”
Gravel will also serve on The Provident's Risk Management committee. His appointment expands the board to 10 directors.
“I've worked closely with numerous Information Security and IT departments as I conduct consulting in the financial services space, and I think culturally the Provident is in the right place, doing the right things and moving in the right direction,” Gravel said. “The Provident has a hard-working and focused group within both the management team and its ranks. I am honored and excited to join the Board.”
Prior to joining the family-owned GraVoc Associates, he served as a guest lecturer in Latin American Studies at Salem State College. He earned his undergraduate degree at Trinity College, in Hartford, and his master’s degree from Middlebury College, in Vermont.
Gravel lives in West Newbury with his wife, Ashley, and two sons, Jakub, 2 ½, and Lukas, 11 months.
